#AYearAThon June Theme: Rick Riordan & TBR Post

Hi everyone. So I am sure that you all know by now, that I love read-a-thons a lot. They encourage me to read more and it honestly is a lot to fun to participate and meet follow bookish people. There is a group on goodreads #AYEARATHON and they host one read-a-thon, per month, with a different theme. I participated in last month's read-a-thon where the theme was catch up/finish series, and this months theme is Rick Riordan! :D I am really excited because, I had read the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series last year and I loved it, and I can't wait to read his spin off series from that Heroes of Olympus and what better time to do this, then the June #AYEARATHON read-a-thon! ;)

It will run from JUNE 2ND TO JUNE 8TH and you can join the group for updates, and use the hashtag on twitter to interact with other people participating as well.

I am going to continue the theme of posting daily updates the next day to recap what I read the previous day and then a wrap-up post at the end. I am giving myself the goal of reading the four books in the series for that week and I really think that I can accomplish it (though TFiOS comes out that week.. so I could be coping with the feels from that). Anyways.. here are the books I plan to read and finish for the read-a-thon:

Are you going to be participating in this read-a-thon? Let me know on the comments below! ;)

#100happydays | Day 15 - May 28th 2014

Review: Everything Leads to You by Nina Lacour

The Premise: The book follows the protagonist Emi Price, who is currently in highschool and interns part-time as a young production designer. She works with her best friend Charlotte and her brother leaves her his apartment for the summer as a type of graduation gift. He has one condition for her and that is for something great to take place in the apartment while he is away. He wants it to be more than simply throwing a big party. The main story begins when Emi and Charlotte come across a letter written by a famous Hollywood star and the letter is written in the event of his death. The actor has already passed by the time they get the letter, but they decide to embark on a journey to deliver the letter to the person it is written to. While dealing with this, juggling her production job, Emi is also very much dealing with the problems of her love life, where she is learning to come to terms with the sixth break-up of her girlfriend, Morgan. The entire story is woven with multiple narratives, Emi's love life, her work and ambitions and the mystery of the letter.

My overall thoughts and review: So without spoiling anything, it was overall a really enjoyable read. It was really refreshing and enjoyable to read a book where the main character is LGBT, but it wasn't the focal point of the narrative and by that I mean, it is already canon, there was no need to explain it. It is what it is, and the character was proud and happy as she is and it was just so lovely to read from. Emi definitely was a frustrating character at times when she was dealing with Morgan (sixth breakup?!?! I was getting angry for Emi!), but her experiences were definitely relatable in terms of dealing with heartbreak and first loves. The best thing about Emi, for me, is her creativity. It is so fascinating learning about the production design world, and how significant it is and how much work it takes to find one piece of furniture for a film set, because no one really stops and thinks, "I wonder where that couch came from" when watching a movie. It was like a behind the scenes perspective over the film industry. It was really nice that within Emi's story, is multiple other stories, each character had such a complex personality that it was so interesting to read about them. Even the fact that there was a film being produced, and there were scenes of the script, that was so intriguing! Overall, I really enjoyed this contemporary read. It was a great story about movies, love, friendship and family. It was well-written, fascinating and all around enticing. I definitely recommend it. I also really really love the cover, it is stunning!

Rating for the book: 4/5 stars.

#100happydays | Day 14 - May 27th 2014

Yesterday was COHF release day!! Oh my goodness. I cannot believe the end is here already. I started it last night but I am really taking my time with it, because to be honest, I am quite sad it is the end of the series. I am really enjoying it so far and it is so nice to be ~reunited~ with the new york shadowhunters that I love and adore! :D

#100happydays | Day 13 - May 26th 2014

Ooops. I bought more books. I recently read books by both of these authors and loved them, so I decided to go out and pick up two older titles by the authors to read. I can't wait to start reading them! :D

Review: We Were Liars by E.Lockhart

The Premise: Before I begin, I just wanted to show a small snippet of the book from the beginning which I thought was super intriguing:

"A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate political boy. A group of four friends -- the Liars -- whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth."

Just that little bit there explains most of the story really well. It follows Cadence Sinclair of the Sinclair family. Cadence is with her mother, and along with that, her mother has two sisters, and each sister inhabits a house on this private island along with their grandma. From each sister, comes a child, who Cadence begins to hang around with, and also with that, a visitor to the island, Gat. So the four, Cadence, Johnny, Gat and Mirren form the liars. It follows Cadence as she begins to unravel an accident that happen on a particular summer. The narrative moves a bit in and out of time with Cadence attempting to piece all the events together, while dealing with the repercussions of the present time. Coming from a distinguished family and there is a legacy to protect, so to speak, there is a kind of "hushhush" vibe going on throughout the book. It is a mystery novel, so throughout the novel is just attempting to piece together not just events, but also getting to know the liars on a whole.

My overall thoughts and review: I went into this book completely blind, not knowing a thing about it and I think that is what made me enjoy it so much. The mystery of it was all I knew, but it only enhanced the mystery in a way? I really enjoyed reading it. Lockhart's writing is just beautiful. So many passages, I just enjoyed reading so much because her choice of words, were just amazing. Her descriptions for characters were especially my favorite, such as how Cadence described Gat. I found that it captured that certain kind of lifestyle really well, and also the liars rejection of that lifestyle in contrast to that. The ending just blew my mind, let me tell you. I did not see it coming, but I can see how many others could see all the chips stacking to that event at the end. It just blew my mind completely, and I was really impressed with the overall outcome of the story. I really enjoyed this, and I am still reeling from it a bit, so I am kind of off about my rating for it. I think why it does not get a complete perfect rating from me is because I just wanted to read more about the other liars as a whole.. I just wanted more. Also, the weaving in and out of a story about a king and the daughters with many renditions often confused things a little for me, but I really liked the little preface those offered. All in all, I highly recommend this if you are a fan of mystery novels and a fan of contemporaries. It is definitely worth the read!

Rating of the book: 4.5/5 stars

#100happydays | Day 12 - May 25th 2014

Today I attended the Henry's Photo and Video Imaging Show: Exposure, which is basically, a photography show. There were a lot of speakers and promos for cameras. I already own a Fujifilm Instax Mini, but mine is quite old, it is actually one of the first versions ever, and I decided today was time for an upgrade since the price was seriously amazing. I got a new one, which included two extra films and I purchased more film and one pack of rainbow coloured film. I am so excited to use my new camera! It is so pink and girly. And not to worry, I will still use my old one and will pass it onto the boy to use from time to time today. All in all, a good day. :D

Review: Then and Always by Dani Atkins

The Premise: This book follows the events of Rachel Wiltshire, a young girl with a close group of friends and a great boyfriend, who is about to begin her college career in a journalism program. Unfortunately, on one simple night out at a restaurant with the entire group, an accident happens which lands Rachel in the hospital and ends the life a very close of friend. Five years from that tragic event, unfortunately the life she could have had with so much promise, does not work out that way. She is still suffering and dealing with the events of that tragic event, become estranged from her friends and did not end up pursuing a career in journalism. On one night, she ventures out to the grave of that friend, and she has a fall. When she wakes up, everything is turned upside down and the life she could have had, turns out to be the one she has woken up to. Rachel has woken up to a healthy father, the great boyfriend turned fiancee, a career in journalism and most of all, the one friend that passed, is now alive before her. She attempts to piece all of the events together and tries to make sense of what is real and what isn't real.

My overall thoughts and review: The premise of the novel really intrigued me and reminded me of the movie The Vow; how when the protagonist wakes from an accident, the life they thought they knew isn't really the life that they are experiencing. The novel does jump forward and backwards in time but Atkins is really clear so there is no confusion. It was really interesting to try and decipher, which world is real, what events really happened, what didn't and just piece together everything. It felt like you were experiencing everything vicariously through Rachel very well, because Atkins was really detailed in explaining things. I loved all of the characters so very much, even the ones that were tremendously flawed. Atkins made characters that were super relatable and I am sure any reader could find an equivalent to in their real life: the caring parent, the best-friend like Sarah, the boyfriend like Matt, and the best-friend who happened to be a boy, Jimmy. I just loved how there was two perspectives to every character, the one in the first world, and the second one. It just made everything way more intriguing and complex and multi-dimensional. The story overall was very sweet and romantic, and spoke to second chances and how significant they are. It was quite haunting and really, just bittersweet. I loved reading about Rachel, Matt and Jimmy and seeing how everything unfolded. I will say, I did not see the ending coming there and when it came, I was honestly gobsmacked. I couldn't believe it, but I am glad that Atkins took that route, because it is quite refreshing and unlike any other narrative that deals with reality/dream type narratives. I will say however, this book does not get the complete perfect rating from me, because I just found the lead up to the end was quite rushed, time jumped quite quickly in the last twenty pages for me, and I just honestly wish it slowed down a little. But all in all, it was an extremely enjoyable read. I love women's fictional contemporary and this one is a great example of that genre, and more importantly, it is a stand out, because it is unlike any typical one I have read, it is quite haunting and I think that is what I enjoyed most about it. I definitely recommend giving this a read! :) (Also, can I just say.. I love the cover so much!)

Rating of the book: 4.5/5 stars

Review: Where She Went by Gayle Forman

**This is a review for the SECOND book in this duology. For the review of the first book please go here! There will be spoilers below from the first book so please proceed with caution**

The Premise: At the end of If I Stay, while Mia was in a coma, Adam begged Mia to stay alive, and even made a promise of leaving her and letting them live separate lives if it was too hard for her to return to her old life. At the very end of the first novel, Mia's eyes open up and this second half of the story, in this novel, finds the characters of Adam and Mia, many years after the accident took place. Adam is now a successful singer a part of a band and Mia is pursuing her Cello career in New York. On one fateful evening, they happen to cross paths after not seeing and speaking to each other for years, and the story begins to ask the question, if they can be reunited after all that time?

My overall thoughts and review: Although the story takes place in the future, I really appreciated the flashbacks, especially of recollections of when Mia woke up and the aftermath of that. I went into this story knowing that there are only two outcomes of course, one, they reunite and are happy and the other: they don't and they both accept it. I wanted to know more of Mia's time immediately after waking up and I found while we got that, it was not as much as I was expecting. The emphasis was more on the effects of it later and where they were now in that time of their life. I also loved that we got Adam's perspective in this novel and more of Adam's perspective during interactions with Mia. Mia did feel like a bit of a stranger, but I think that was the point, to show how she felt really different, but perhaps she really wasn't after all this time. I really enjoyed the ending and I thought it was realistic. It was so nice to see again, how music was a main point of their relationship and how it is music that brought the two together. It was Mia's concert that Adam happened to attend that night last minute that got the ball rolling. Overall, I really enjoyed this read and I thought it was a nice conclusion to the duology. As a whole, I really enjoyed this mini series and I think it is definitely worth checking out. I love Forman's style of writing, it just immediately draws you in. After this, I am definitely excited to read other books by her!

Rating of the book: 4/5 stars (leaning towards 4.5 though)

#100happydays | Day 11 - May 24th 2014

We were offered some free Jays tickets last minute from my boss for yesterday, so we headed downtown for the game. It was a lovely day weather wise, and they even had the top open! It was a great game, I got to see one of my favorite players hit a home run and they won! On our way out of the stadium, we got free ice cream too! :D

#100happydays | Day 10 - May 23rd 2014

After we left Toronto, the boy and I went to go see the new X-Men movie. I am a huge X-Men fan so I was quite excited for this one. It exceeded all of my expectations and was amazing. I just love all the cast members so much, especially those from first class. I spent the rest of the evening going grocery shopping with the boy and we had a nice dinner in that night!

#100happydays | Day 9 - May 22nd 2014

I went to the Last Gang Records 10 Years Party which featured MSTRKRFT and Ethan Kath from Crystal Castles with the boy and a friend from school. It wasn't really a concert.. but it was fun nonetheless! It turned into more of a dance party than anything!

Review: Saga Volume 1 By Brian K Vaughan

The Premise: The story follows two individuals Markos and Alana who come from opposite sides in an on-going war who have fallen in love and have a child together. They are both on the run and the beginning of the story begins with the birth of their child. They are attempting to find a place that they can call home away from the war and a place to raise their child. Typical questions arise such as what should the child be named, what traditions it should follow. While this is going on, there are people who are out looking for both Markos and Alana, and some who even want the child captured and unharmed. There are many narratives going on at once, and along all the different perspectives is the small voice of Markos and Alana's child.

My Overall Thoughts and Review: I have been seeing this graphic novel series pop up more frequently on goodreads and on the book blogging world, so I decided to pick it up. I don't read a lot of graphic novels, so my experience is limited. But I really enjoyed this one. The premise sounds normal enough, but it does take place in an alternate universe and with many creatures that are super strange yet also intriguing. Alana has wings and Markos has horns.. and then there are also creatures who have screens as heads and a lying cat (I LOVE THAT!). The first volume was really well-done and it was not confusing to follow at all, even with all the many narratives going on, from Alana and Markos'.. to the bounty hunters after them etc etc. The artwork is beautiful by the way, just stunning. It is really fast paced and all the characters are so complex, that even the ones after the main protagonists, you cannot help but like a little. I really enjoyed it, and it reminded me of a Joss Whedon Firefly universe, but with more crazy creatures. I can't wait to pick up the next two volumes and read them.

Rating of the graphic novel: 4/5 stars. (I am still debating my rating, because I am not sure.. I am leaning more towards 4.5 though)

Have you read Saga Volume 1 by Brian K Vaughan? What did you think of it?

Review: Blood Red Road by Moira Young

The Premise: The story takes place in the post-apocalyptic future and follows protagonist Saba. She lives with her twin brother Lugh who she is extremely close with and adores, her sister Emmi, who she blames for their mother's death (their mother died in childbirth) and her father Pa. On one tragic day, her brother is taken from her by men cloaked in black on horses, called the Tonton. She sets out to find her brother and bring him home and ends up leaving her home and having to set out into lands that are new to her. She ventures into dangerous territory attempting to find Lugh and goes through a series of trials as well. With many twists and turns along the way, Saba's number one goal is simply reuniting with Lugh and along the way, she encounters the handsome Jack and a group of girls who call themselves the Free Hawks. She also learns of her brother's captives and the reasoning between his disappearance.

My overall thoughts and review: To begin with, the text is written in a phonetic style, very simplistic, so that was a bit difficult for me to get used to at first. Once you get through I would say 20-30 pages.. it does not even bother you anymore because immediately you are immersed in Saba's world. I really liked how fast paced it was and how anything could happen at anytime. There was constant twists and turns and it honestly felt like Saba was not getting a break. She was going through encounter after encounter. The overall story of why Lugh was kidnapped was quite interesting and just the way Young pushed her main protagonist way out of her comfort zone was so enticing; because you see Saba really struggle with everything, but as a strong protagonist, she finds ways to rise above it in the end. I really enjoyed the character of Emmi especially, and when I met Young at a signing, she mentioned that that character was based on her own sister, so that was interesting. Overall, it makes a good stand alone apart from the series, but there was nice set up for what is to come in the series as well. Being dystopian and all, it reminded me of course of other dystopic novels such as The Hunger Games and Divergent, in the sense where the female protagonist is being pushed out of their comfort zone and having to go to great lengths to "grow" as a character. I really liked it, but I did not love it, and I think simply because I did not love Saba as a protagonist. It was interesting to see how her story unraveled, but her as a character, at many times, was really difficult to sympathize with, especially the moments when she displayed just unnecessary hatred towards her sister in contrast to the undying love she had for Lugh. So that was a bit frustrating. But overall, it was a good book and I highly recommend it!

Rating of the book: 4/5 stars.

This book is the first in the trilogy titled The Dust Lands. Reviews for the second and final book will be up soon, so be on the look out for those! :)

Sh*t, I Have Too Many Books Read-a-thon | Day 3 Update

Hi everyone! so here is my progress from Day 3!

Books I am currently reading:
  • Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Total # of pages read today: 145 pages

Books I completed reading:
  • Countdown City by Ben H Winters
  • We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
  • Saga - Volume 1 by Brian K Vaughan
  • Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
Total # of pages read overall: 817 pages

I met up with my bestfriend to hang out for the day, so I did not get to read as much as the previous days. I did however, finish Rebel Belle and I really enjoyed it. I will be posting a review for it soon, so be on the look out for that. I am so in the mood for contemporary reads lately, so I am moving straight along reading Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson! :D How are you doing thus far? Let me know in the comments below!

Review: Countdown City by Ben H Winters

**This review is for the SECOND book in The Last Policeman Trilogy. The review for the first book in the series is located here**

The Premise: The story picks up immediately after the first book with Hank Palace still reeling from the ending events of the previous book. He is now no longer a detective, but begins a mystery again when an old friend of his contacts him about her missing husband. He cannot make promises and does not have the power he previously had, but he attempts to ask questions and try to locate him. Instead of the question of "whodunnit?", this book takes the turn for the "wheredidhego?" question. The mystery element is still present and the days are only getting shorter with the end of the world quickly approaching on the characters. Along with that, there is the storyline of his connection with his sister. Since the last novel, he has not made contact with her, regardless of her being his family, but in this novel, he may just have to ask for her help, especially in the case. The book also asks the question again, of what is worth solving, what is worth pursuing when the end is so near?

My Overall Thoughts and Review? I really liked that this picked up right where the first one left off. It still explained what happened in the previous book, but it was more of speaking on the affects as opposed to simply reiterating. The case did not intrigue me as much as the case from the previous book, but again, the twists and turns definitely surprised me. It is so fascinating to witness Palace's deduction process and then see how the mystery all unravels. I am really curious for the final book in the series if there will be another case, or will it simply focus on him and his sister with it being the final book and the end imminent. All in all, I really enjoyed it. It was a fantastic sequel and actually reminded me of a Sherlock Holmes case more this time with all the twists and turns and series of deductions. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series!

Rating of the book: 4/5 stars.

Books You Devoured | Top 5 Wednesday

Hi everyone. So here is another Top 5 Wednesday Post! The theme for this week is Books You Devoured. I love this weeks theme because there are a ton of books where I literally devoured within a few hours or a day and I read it in one sitting (only to leave to eat and sleep). Onto my choices!

1. The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald
This book is one of my favorite classics ever. Once I start it, I do not want to put it down. It is such a lovely book and I adore his writing style so much.

2. The Ocean at The End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
I picked this up not knowing anything about it and I literally devoured it in one sitting. It was so lovely, so fantastical and just BEAUTIFUL. I highly recommend this. It is a short read but well worth it.

3. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
I decided to include a book that I recently devoured. I picked this up because of a signing I went to and I heard many booktube reviews raving about it, so I decided to read it one night around 11.. I only wanted to read a few chapters and then head to bed, but I actually stayed up until 4am reading it. I loved it so much and I can't wait for the next one.

4. Vicious by V.E. Schwab
This is hands down my favorite book from this year without a doubt. I can't say it enough. I loved this so much. I devoured it in a day and I did not want it to end. It is seriously one of the coolest books ever.

5. Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
The final book in the Shatter Me series. I loved this!! I picked it up late one night and then I ended up staying up all night reading it. I just could not put it down. It is so addictive and the chapters are fairly short so you breeze through them. I really enjoyed this final instalment so much, it was everything i wanted and more. Warner is simply perfection.

What are your top 5 books that you devoured? Let me know in the comments below!

Review: The Last Policeman: A Novel by Ben H Winters

The Premise: From the author of Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, comes a brand new trilogy titled The Last Policeman series, with the first novel titled: "The Last Policeman: A Novel" (2012). The story takes place in a pre-apocalyptic world and follows Detective Hank Palace, as he attempts to solve a suspicious suicide in a city where suicides are quite frequent. The novel is linked with the tag line: "What's the point in solving murders if we're all going to die soon, anyway?" The story follows the narrative which most mystery novels ask and that is "whodunnit" and the novel has many twists and turns, where all the evidence points to it being a suicide but also, you are skeptical as Palace unravels the mystery for you. Along with that, there is the underlying narrative and that is the story of Palace himself; who he is, his job, his role as a policeman/detective and his family and friends. Without spoiling anything, I believe the underlying narrative about Palace is the interweaving aspect that will unravel within the next two books in the series and also, the narrative of the effects of imminent and inevitable end of the world. From what I have read and seen, each book comes with a new "case" so to speak.

My overall thoughts and review? To begin with, it is INCREDIBLY refreshing to read a story that is set in the pre-apocalyptic as opposed to the post-apocalyptic. It brings an interesting dynamic to a world that is awaiting the inevitable end of the world, and how each character reacts to it. It asks the question, is crime even worth solving when the end is so near? The context for the end is also interesting, because even after the first book there is still lots to be developed. When reading this, it reminded me a lot of Robert Galibrath's (JK Rowling's) The Cuckoo's Calling murder mystery type narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed reading from the perspective of Palace and I found it really interesting that he was kind of ambivalent towards the end of the world and placed more emphasis on the actual case and stuck through it even when all signs point to, it isn't worth solving. I also found the underlying narrative of Palace and his sister interesting too which was spliced in between the scenes of the case. I am now already onto the second book in the novel which is currently out, titled Countdown City and I can't wait to read the next part of the novel, where Palace is in fact, no longer an actual policeman and with the deadline of the end of the world quickly approaching.

Rating of the book: 4/5 stars.

Sh*t, I Have Too Many Books Read-a-thon | Day 1 Update

As soon as one read-a-thon ends, another one starts. Regan from the youtube channel PeruseProject, one of my favorite booktubers I should add, released information on Sunday evening that she was going to host a very low-key read-a-thon. The read-a-thon would be updated and interactive through the hashtag #shitIhavetoomanybooks, which I am sure you have seen circling through twitter now. It will be Monday to Monday, May 19th to May 26th. Since I mostly update my reading progress in blog format anyways, I will continue to post daily updates that way. I have quite the busy week ahead of me, but I will try and get as much reading done, preferably an hour a day, to seriously bring down my TBR pile. Anyways, so here is my update from day one!

Books I am currently reading:
  • Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

Total # of pages read today: 468 pages

Books I completed reading:
  • Countdown City by Ben H Winters
  • We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
Total # of pages read overall: 468 pages

I was able to finish the rest of the Ben Winters book which I only had about 87 pages left of after the bout of books read-a-thon ended. It was a great read, and reviews for the first two books in that series will be up soon. I also picked up We Were Liars - which has a lot of hype surrounding it and I really enjoyed it as well, so full review for that to come! I am now tackling Rebel Belle, which I really like so far, it is really funny and the story is quite intriguing so far. Harper as the main protagonist is hilarious! Anyways, I am hoping to finish that off today, but we shall see. Anyways, good luck with your reading progress and let me know in the comments below if you are participating.

Review: If I Stay by Gayle Forman

The Premise: If I Stay is the first part of a two part duo-logy from the author Gayle Forman. It follows the protagonist Mia Hall, as she faces the aftermath of a tragic car accident which takes the lives of her mother and father, and possibly young brother. The novel is comprised with a series of flashbacks which feature moments between Mia and her boyfriend Adam, flashbacks of Mia and her family members and flashbacks of Mia with a significant part of her life: her music. The car accident happens fairly early on in the book and the rest of the book, Mia is in a type of coma where she like a ghost and can see all the events and hear the people around her, but not actually experience all the moments. The flashbacks and the experiences in the hospital, lead Mia to decide the ultimate question, if I stay?.

My overall thoughts and review: I picked this book up because I saw the trailer for it. I own the other books written by Forman, but I have not gotten around the chance to read them yet, but I participated in a read-a-thon last week and decided why not to go ahead and read this. It looked really interesting and terrifyingly heartbreaking from the movie trailer, and the book only reaffirmed that a tenfold. The book was really interesting because although the crash occurs quite early on, the flashbacks helped build character and only made you feel more for the situation at hand. Although it follows Mia, the reader cannot help but mourn her very wonderfully multi-dimensional family that suffered in the accident. Learning more about her mother and father were especially some of my favorite moments. Also, Adam. He was just incredibly lovely and the flashbacks that catalogued how their relationship came to be were extremely heartwarming. It wasn't the typical YA novel of "insta-love" but it was truly a very interesting and deep relationship, where both found common ground in music, and although music at opposite ends of the spectrum one might think, it was so beautiful how they both came together. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it ended in such a nice way that opens up for the next book in the two-part duology. I highly recommend giving this a read, it reminded me of The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold.

Rating of the book: 4/5 stars.

The movie for the book will come out soon and here is the trailer for it!

A review for Where She Went will be up shortly! ;)

I was able to read and finish two books today and I am about 100 pages away from the second book by Winters, so I will finish that off before bed. Overall, I think I did pretty good, not as good as my last boutofbooks, but I accomplished 4 books and 2 comic books, and about 2/3 of another book so that is pretty good. I am happy I caught up on all of my comic issues and also finished the Dust Lands trilogy, which has been on my tbr for quite some time now. I sadly missed all the twitter chats so I was not able to participate in that, but I did participate in 5 challenges so that was awesome. All in all, I had a great week of reading :) I can't wait for the next bout of books! ;)

How did you make out for this boutofbooks? Let me know in the comments below!

#100happydays | Day 5 - May 18th 2014

I have two photos for today because I just could not choose. I had a lovely meal today with the boy, we had sushi.. which is so delicious! And it was a day of light rain, so we stayed indoors, where I got a lot of reading done and we hung out with the dogs. We also ended the night with a delicious home-cooked meal (not photographed) and I got through two books today actually and I am now onto my third one. Pretty successful day if I say so myself.

#100happydays | Day 4 - May 17th 2014

We saw Godzilla tonight in AVX 3D and I really enjoyed it. I don't remember much from the previous versions, but I really liked this one. It was long but the effects were really well done and overall, it looked pretty awesome. :D

#100happydays | Day 3 - May 16th 2014

Another food related post :P Today, I went to Heritage Fish and Chips, with the boy, his dad and grandma and we had a lovely little lunch. It was such a nice little place and there was tons of British memorabilia around and good food. We also went out in the evening for dinner to, so all in all, this day was mostly a day of eating. :P I am now relaxing in bed reading. Yay for the long weekend! :)

  • Blood Red Road by Moira Young
  • Loki: Agent of Asgard - Issue #004
  • Serenity: Leaves on the Wind - Issue #004

Yesterday was a pretty busy day too and I was feeling quite tired from the events of the previous day, so I was only able to read two comic book issues and I fell asleep before I could read more of Rebel Heart. I am hoping to get a lot of reading done today since I only finished one book so far and we are already at day five and that is really little compared to my last bout of books. It is also a long weekend, and I don't have much planned so a lot more time for reading.

How are you doing with the read-a-thon?

#100happydays | Day 2 - May 15th 2014

I had a relatively calm day today reading some comic book issues I recently bought with my bestie Nikki. I had to drop her off at home but before that we went to Five Guys Burgers and Fries. I love that place! It does not look all that appealing, but it was delicious.

#100happydays | Day 1 - May 14th 2014

I have decided to participate in the #100happydays challenge and you can read about all the details http://100happydays.com/ :) I will be posting these photos mostly on my instagram which you can follow me under the username @soufflegrl! But I also will be posting the photos in a blog post form on here. I will ALWAYS take a picture the day of, but to make the blog post, it may not show up until the morning after or the day after, but I will always try for the same day.

To start us off.. I am going to talk about yesterday, the day I met Tom Hiddleston.

If you know me, then you will know that he is basically my favourite human being ever. I absolutely adore him and admire him so much and I knew he's been filming in the Toronto/GTA area for quite some time now, but with school & work, I haven't been able to come out to find him. My bestfriend Nikki and I made the road trip to Hamilton (we left the house at 7am) hoping to see him, but they weren't actually filming there until today. One of the crew members let it slip to me where they were actually filming, and it is irony since, it is basically 2 minutes away from where I go to school. We drove there and we saw the signs. We saw Tom as he came back and forth from break (and we obviously had to contain our fan girl selves) and then the rain hit.. so that was super depressing for a moment because it was thundershowers and we were worried we wouldn't see him again. On his way home, he called us over and said he brought out headshots for us to sign, which was AMAZING. He personalized them, I got to give him some cards I wrote for him (cheesy I know) and we chatted for a little in the rain, so that was lovely.

All in all, it was an amazing day, one I will never forget.. and most of all, I am happy I got to share that special moment with my best friend Nikki  :)

So anyways, from now on, you can find all of these #100happydays post on my instagram like I mentioned, but also here under the tag 100happydays, and there will be a link in the top bar for all of the posts. I hope you can follow me on this journey! :) I will try to do 100 days in a row, so wish me luck, and I just want to say now that I won't always include text/description with the picture.

Total # of pages read today: 52

  • Blood Red Road by Moira Young
Total # of pages read overall: 511

Yesterday was not a really good reading day for me, since I was only able to read a few pages in the morning. I was out all day, and the reason of that you will find out soon in a new series on my blog, but I have started the next book in Moira Young's series and I am really enjoying that there is Jack's perspective already and it is shifting to Saba's perspective to, so awesome! :D Can't wait to read more of it today and I hope to finish it today too since my boutofbooks is off to a bit of a slow start compared to the last one.

Magical Items | Top 5 Wednesday

So, this is a starting trend on booktube and bookblogs recently, so I thought I'd join in on it. There is a topic for every wednesday and you list your top 5 of "______". You can check out the goodreads group here where all the topics are listed. To start off.. it is top magical items! :D

1. One Ring from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings Trilogy & The Hobbit
It is THE ring. I mean, how can you not include this in your top 5?

2. Riptide from Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & The Olympians series
When it isn't a powerful sword, it takes the form of a ballpoint pen. How awesome is that!

3. The Elder Wand from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series
It is THE wand of all wands. And it looks good too!

4. The Invisibility Cloak from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.
Who wouldn't want an invisibility cloak? You can go anywhere undetected!

5. Remembrall from J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.
I remember this from the first movie and how Neville needed it. This is such a cool concept and I realyl wish it existed. It would do wonders used with a calendar!

That is it for this week's Top 5 Wednesday. I hope you enjoyed this instalment and I will see you next week! :D
