One week.
Home alone.
Girl genius.
Unrepentant slacker.
What’s the worst that could happen?

Mona is a smart girl and had everything figured out a long time ago. She had to. She didn’t have a choice. When your parents are uber-celebrities and you graduate from high school at thirteen, finish college at seventeen, and start your PhD program at eighteen, you don’t have time for distractions outside of your foci. Even fun is scheduled.

Which is why Abram, her brother’s best friend, is such an irritant.

Abram is a talented guy, a supremely gifted musician, and has absolutely nothing figured out, nor does he seem to care. He does what he feels, when he feels, and—in Mona’s opinion—he makes her feel entirely too much.

Laws of Physics is the second trilogy in the Hypothesis series; Laws of Physics parts 1 (MOTION) & 2 (SPACE) end with a cliffhanger.

Review:

I've only ever read one book by Penny Reid, and I really did enjoy her ability to create such quirky characters and the humor in her books. I was particularly interested in this book because I haven't read a twin-swapping scenario in quite some time, and as someone who is doing her doctoral studies, the lead is also someone in academia. You first meet Mona when she's doing an interview with a fellow scholar when she gets a frantic phone call from her twin sister, Lisa, that she needs to impersonate her for a bit back home because she's been adopted. You learn quite quickly that the siblings are not as close as they used to be, and going back home, Mona finds herself also reconnecting with an old friend, Gabby. The play is simple. Go home, impersonate Lisa, and stay put and out of trouble while under the watchful eye of her brother's friend, Abram. Abram did meet Lisa once, but under very complicated circumstances. Mona has a bit of a tough time being Lisa, as things that make her, her, slip out at times. Mona as Lisa, finds herself attracted to Abram, and vice versa. I really liked the small little jokes they had and how much chemistry they had. However, since the book is first in the series, it ends on a major cliffhanger with Lisa returning, and Abram still in the dark about the swap. While I liked reading the chemistry and seeing them interact with one another, I will say, the parts that were very physics based were lost on me and I found myself skimming those sections. I also really wished there was a dual-perspective as I would've liked to read things from Abram's perspective. I liked it, but I didn't love it, since I did want more from it. I am looking forward to the next few in the series though. I'm definitely curious about how it will all unravel in the next few books. If you are a fan of Reid's writing in general, this is definitely one to check out. If you aren't familiar with her writing, but the premise of twin-swapping, a really sweet musician male lead, and smart heroine intrigues you, definitely give it a look!
