Kayla Sinclair is a saint and real life Angel.
She wears her heart on her sleeve and inspires me to be a better person.
Rescuing dogs, feeding the homeless, volunteering at the local food pantry are just a few of the ways she gives back to others, although no one has ever been there for her.
Falling for her was inevitable, losing her will destroy me.
Letting someone in didn’t come easy, but she made me want to try for the first time in years.
Her bubbling personality and kind spirit make it impossible to forget a girl like her.
But when tragedy strikes and she loses all memory that our relationship ever existed, my worst nightmare comes to life.
I’ll do anything to remind her of the love we shared. I know it’ll be an uphill battle, but I won’t walk away without a fight. Whoever said all is fair in love and war never played by my rules.
Checkmate, Angel.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
**This is book w in the Logan & Kayla Saga–a second-chance romance. Must read This is Dangerous first. However, you don’t need to read any of the other Checkmate duet series to enjoy this one, but it’s recommended as they are both introduced in the earlier books.**

So if you want to read my review for the first book in this Duet, you can find it here! This has got to be one of my most anticipated reads of the Fall and I feel so incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to read it ahead of time. The last book ended on a crazy cliffhanger and I was seriously worried for my favorite OTP and their future ahead. I have to admit, I haven't read a lot of second chance romances, so I don't have much to compare to, but KF handles this narrative in such a unique way. Memory loss is totally a trope we see in various narratives, but the way it was handled here was super interesting. You see how both characters are trying to find their way back to each other, while still having the spark and charm from the first novel. I loved how we got to see Kayla stand up for herself more at work. We learned a lot more about Kayla in this book and her past, what led her to where she is. What makes her love Christmas and dogs so much. You see her taking initiative, kicking butts, and taking names. I love what a strong willed character she is and she just grows so much as a character. I loved seeing the character development in both her and Logan. In terms of Logan, I loved seeing the scenes where it was him and Skylar. He is such a good dad and you really see him working hard to make sure the co-parenting between him and Maggie work out in Skylar's best interest. He truly loves his daughter so much. I don't want to spoil what happens but this was such a lovely second novel in the series. I loved seeing the character development growth, I loved how the storyline from last book was resolved, and again, I loved seeing the other characters storylines were included. I am sad that the duet series is over, but this is definitely going down in the books as one of my favorite series ever. I will forever love KF books, and I'm already counting down the days for their next series (The Bishop Brothers). There's everything you could possibly want and love in this book: romance, sexy swoony moments, drama, family, and friendship. Also there's a good dose of dogs AND donuts ;) I think I will be forever Team Layla, and here's to hoping my lovely OTP are mentioned in the next series in a small way! *fingers crossed* If you haven't checked out the Checkmate Series by Kennedy Fox, what are you waiting for? Logan and Kayla's story is definitely my favorite of the three! Highly recommend.

My rating of the book: ✮✮✮✮✮ (5/5 stars)
