Review: Needing You Close by Kennedy Fox

Needing You Close
Tyler & Gemma #2
Release Date: August 13

I never expected to see my first love again after he left me twelve years ago. Though I’ve moved on, working with Tyler is no easy task—especially when he focuses his bedroom eyes on me. Flirting with the past is like playing with fire, and considering I’m engaged, I’m bound to get burned.

When the man I promised to marry reveals he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, I run to the safety of Tyler’s strong arms. As we grow closer, so do our feelings. Threats and ultimatums are made, and the revelation of the truth is enough to bring me to my knees. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect my family, even if it means shredding my heart.

Too dangerous, too unpredictable, too risky to handle alone—we need each other now more than ever.

After our world nearly collapses, there’s nothing left to do but take it back. Tyler and I team up to destroy the people who are determined to ruin our second chance at a happily ever after. Though our love is undeniable, I just hope it’s enough. We’ll fight until the end to be together—regardless of who tries to get in our way.

NEEDING YOU CLOSE is a slow-burn, angsty romance wrapped up in an intense love story. It's book 2 in the Tyler & Gemma duet and must be read in order.

My Review:

So glad it was basically a month wait for the second part of this duet! The last book, Keeping You Away, ended on a cliffhanger with Gemma realizing how bad her fiance, Robert, was, and also meeting Victoria, who happened to be working with Robert, and also the person who ruined Tyler's life. I was really worried that Victoria would pull some crap and make things worse, and also for Robert to be even more crazy than before. I wanted to scream at my kindle app a few times because I wish Gemma saw the warning signs and I just wanted to protect them from those two!!

The drama picks up a bit more in this one, but what this second book really solidified for me was that Gemma and Tyler have always loved one another, and that when they love, they really love. You see them coming through in this book not just for each other, but their fellow loved ones, family and friends, and most of all, themselves. You see them fighting for their own happiness and their own love story, and doing what it takes to get there. There's so much strength in both Gemma and Tyler, but I was especially proud of Gemma this book.

Some additional things that I really enjoyed were that you got to see more letters that they wrote to one another from their friendship/relationship before, and how that mirrored some of the events happening in present time. I loved seeing the friendship circle and seeing them both grow with Everleigh and Katie more, and I loved seeing Liam and Maddie again in this book too! We also got to see more of Tyler's gym buddy, Ruby, and the friend he was helping out, Eric. All in all, it was a solid conclusion and a really nice start to the ex-con duet series. To be honest, it kind of reminded me of a mix between KF's previous series that featured Drew and Courtney (This is Reckless and This is Effortless) and then Logan and Kayla's story (This is Dangerous and This is Beautiful). You get the perfect amount of drama/villain, sexiness, swooniess, and downright heartwarming feels!

I'm looking forward to next duet in this ex-con series since Noah is just coming home from jail at the end of this one, and we get to see if Katie and him can rekindle things!
